Transpinay World Vs Solon

Dec 8, 2009 by

The backwards politics of the Philippines has reared it’s ugly head once again. A country with one of the highest percentage of transsexuals and gays has embarrassed itself with a proposed bill to make same sex marriage criminal.
We all know that same sex marriage was not legal before but now this new bill seeks to make it a criminal act. The proposed act focuses on identity fraud (i.e. saying you are a different gender to your birth certificate), that is nothing new for a country that is in many ways politically 100 years behind many others. But it also states that same sex couples living as man and wife are at risk of 15 years imprisonment. What does this mean to couples that live together? What does this mean to couples that were married in more open minded countries?
There is something deeply wrong with a country that has recently seen a massacre of innocent people by a friend of the president, and now seems to have politicians with potential, making bills that can only lead to discrimination.
