I have learned that the word TS (transsexual) in Dubai does not exist, they call us ladyboy (or Kanis) in Arabic. Being TS in Dubai is not easy, the first time I moved to there I was told to cut off my hair

TPW Tell us about how you got involved in the movie.
QR Its quite a long story actually, I’ve been an internet addict who likes chatting and surfing. I met my director online in some social network. I thought he was looking for playtime or just being bored but he told me he is a film director and producer in Iceland. I wasnt interested in the first place so I was just being so and so, but then after few months I avoid chatting with him. He told me he’s coming here in the Philippines to make a film about TS girls so it rang my bell. I wasnt interested to be in the film and didn’t wanna be an actress, I’m just there to help him behind the scenes and giving stories. But then when we met personally for the first time he was doing some test shots with every Tgirl he contacted, then suddenly I tried doing it.
TPW What did you learn from your experiences on the movie?
QR I learned to be independent and at the same time discover my passion for travelling. I already had the passion before but now I’m wanting more. Well yeah, being a responsible person as I am, well as the movie spread, the message I also learned to be a woman that I am without depending from man.
TPW How has the LGBT community reacted to you being in the movie?
QR Well especially here in Cebu they are proud and happy about me.
TPW What are some challenges that face transgendered actors?
QR Well mostly they have a monotonous role in the movie industry plus putting the label “TG movie” making it marketable to the masses. If you look at Filipino showbiz, TG’s are treated in a supporting role as a laughing stuff but they’re not. Mostly actors are cross dressing and this teaches society for every Tgirl living in the Philippines as a subject for puns and jokes. Filipinos are big fans of showbiz and television and mostly Tgirls are just behind the scene of every entertainment industry not on the camera and neither on leading roles.
TPW How do you feel about being called a role model?
QR Hehehehe well I never expected that honestly, I was never a saint nor an angel, but if thats what people see in me I’ll be happy and proud.
TPW Who are your personal role models?
QR Aside from my mom theres lots since I love powerful women or women of substance. Mostly famous first ladies like Imelda Marcos, Carla Bruni Sarkozy, Evita Peron (sorry but I am materialistic and love to marry powerful man thats why I love this woman), Grace Jones (for her versatility and talent, plus a sex goddess inspite of her masculine physique but she is also a beauty icon), Anna Wintour of Vogue magazine (I’ve seen how she live her life before achieving to be the powerful fashion pope).
TPW How old were you when you realized you were different among the boys?
QR Ever since I can remember because when I was young I never wanted to play with toys. I never fancy all those toy guns and playing with the guys in the neighborhood. Mostly I liked to walk around discover new places far away from my community, loved to go to the churches and attend processions because I liked the woman saints and Virgin Mary. I liked their clothes, and I liked to hang out with girls at my age and play house games like mom and dad. And yes I always fancy my moms make up and higheels and also my kindergarten to grade school teacher in their fashion statements, dreaming I could wear something like them.

TPW So what do you think is your difference to other TS/TG?
QR Hehehe, I dont know but everywhere I go I always attract attention, maybe on my fashion statement or the aura that I possess. I’m friendly thats why I have a lot of friends and in a small world here in Cebu almost every TG knows me. I’m outrageous and outgoing as a Tgirl myself, I don’t get too stuck up wanting to be beautiful or the most feminine. I’m kinda laid back and I focus much more on other things in my physical aspect. I do have a character and I always had this certain attention I can get everywhere I go ever since I was young and still attending school, it just proves I’m one unique individual.
TPW As a TS, what advice can you give to ignore the discriminations that are common here in the Philippines?
QR Just be yourself and fight for what you believe. Of course as a matter of sisterhood we all suffer from one thing. I think its time for us to cooperate, listen, and stop looking in the mirror and find something that is wrong. You can never see the answer in the mirror or in your make up, it can attract guys like you wanted to but then it wont help you claim your rights and be recognized. If one experiences the transphobia and discrimination, you don’t need to brush it off and move on because nothing will happen. Its time for us to make a move and it can contribute a lot for the future generation.
TPW Is your dream destination really Paris? If so how did it feel to be there?
QR Honestly yeah because ever since I was young I dreamt of becoming a haute couture designer, and also love food so much that I fancy Parisian life cause of fashion and culinary. Well I was quite surprised I must admit, its a fancy and romantic city which is true, but then its just like other busiest cities in the world; polluted, traffic and lots of people but i didnt mind it after all. Beside Ive seen so many cute and handsome French men around and I was shocked by the way they’re treating me. I felt like a sex goddess, every French guy that pass into my way wanted to date me LOL. Yeah its true I dont know, probably its my exotic Asian features but then i told them ‘hey im a transgender’ but most of them are quite ok with it i guess, they dont wanna miss being with a beautiful asian girl
