The author appears to be an expert on the subject and gives lots of useful tips and guides. The book covers finding TS and how to effectively date them.

Asian TS dating is becoming much more common as guys begin to realize that these women are partners worth spending a lifetime with. Perhaps this is due to transgender breast implants, TS hair removal and other cosmetic procedures becoming more common and better quality?

The 2011 event was held on 5th November at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu. It was a magnificent spectacle of world class proportions. From the stage production to the extravagant costumes, the whole event oozed class. The ladies looked beautiful and the crown was awarded to a deserving Bee Urgello.

The highlight was certainly the national costumes. The effort and expense was obvious with some of the most amazing costumes ever seen in a Philippines transgender pageant. The attention to detail was markedly higher than we are used to in the Philippines. The event must now be considered alongside the best in the world.

Baffled, sad and most of all upset. Those were the feelings which came up when Jan
Janice reported at Customs at the airport of Dubai – one of the seven Arab Emirates
- together with other passengers. What should have been a pleasant visit to friends ended up in a drama. “As a transgender, I have never ever been so humiliated onto the bone”.

Without the faintest idea, Jen Janice got off the plane on that hot December day
and went through Customs. A few days ago she had decided to continue to the
United Arab Emirates to visit some friends, after a business meeting in Kuwait. She
was very much looking forward to it, as it had been a while since she seen her
friends. But in her wildest dreams she would not have guessed the end result. “I
was queuing up at customs and I was dressed modestly. When it was finally my
turn, the customs official studied my passport. He then called for help from passing-by colleague”. Jen Janice was stunned.

Because she is unable to speak Arabic, she could not make out any of the conversation following that. His stern
facial expression then changed when he heard a remark from a colleague. “I was clearly the subject. A few times, he looked at me in minute detail and then back into my passport. That was so humiliating.” Because she has not had her Sexual Corrective Surgery (SRS), Jan Janice is still registered as a male.

For Indonesian transgenders, practicing religion in public is not an easy thing, but that doesn’t stop some from trying.

Mariyani, a 50-year-old transgender hairdresser, said during a discussion on homosexuality and religion that transgender people, just like other people, wish to be able to practice their religion openly.

“If I ever had the choice, I would not want to be a transgender, but this is what God has decided for me,” Mariyani said.

“It needs to be understood that it is not true that all transgenders are bad, because there are good transgenders who actually have a strong willingness to publicly practice religion but unfortunately we are not accepted,” she said.

But Merlyn Sopjan, a Christian transgender who heads the Malang Transsexual Association (Iwama), told the Jakarta Globe that unlike Mariyani, she has never experienced rejection in her church.

“Even though there are many people who know that I am a transgender, no one stares at me every time I walk to the church and I feel so comfortable because I can practice my religion peacefully,” Merlyn said.

“I think it is because that in Christian religious rites, the male and female believers are not segregated,” she added.

It is a fascinating read with a variety of articles from guys who have found love with TS, and various opinions on men who find transsexuals attractive.

There are also videos posted such as a recent one about Nina Arsenault giving a lecture on transoriented men. There is also a link to a rather interesting survey being carried out by Northwestern University about men who like TS. Girls may also find the site interesting as it looks closely at what makes a transoriented man, and goes some way to explaining their thought process.

A particuarly interesting piece on the site is the Description of Transoriented Guys which should help to open up a few people’s minds. There is lots more on there too like a discussion about guys coming out to their friends and family about liking transwomen.

Why are there more transgender people in certain countries?

This is a question which has cropped up for anyone interested in transgender issues. Countries like the Philippines and Thailand seem to have a much higher percentage of transsexuals compared to places like the USA and UK. The question is one which has been discussed by many but it doesn’t have a clear answer.

One theory on why there are more TS in certain countries is because of tolerance. For example in Thailand it is more acceptable to be transsexual. However tolerance doesn’t seem to explain it, surely in the west we would at least suspect some people that we know to secretly be TS, but this almost never happens. Therefore the tolerance argument is probably not the reason, people are more tolerant because it is more common.

The next theory is religion. Thailand is Buddhist and it is believed by some that being transgender is a sort of half way point in reincarnation. When a woman dies, she then becomes a katoey (Thai term for the third sex) in her next life, before she can then be reincarnated as a man.

Others in Thailand believe that when a man cheats on his wife, he is reincarnated as a katoey in the next life because of his bad karma. Buddhism is a religion which rewards those that practice ‘good karma’ by reincarnating them as something good, and punishes those that generate bad karma by making them into a being or animal with a worse existence. Being a transgender is considered to be a hardship, it is easy for TS to find many sexual partners but difficult to find a lifetime partner.

However the religion argument also doesn’t seem to work because the Philippines is a Catholic country. Christianity certainly does not have much respect for transsexuals or even homosexuals. Countries which do not have a strong religious element such as the UK have a very low trans population.

The most complex but likely answer to why there are more transsexuals in certain countries is DNA. This is an enormous argument which often relies on speculation because there just isn’t enough data to analyze. However there seems to be some possibility that DNA patterns could be the answer. For example the Aeta people of the Philippines are roughly equivalent to Aboriginals in Australia.

They have no recorded examples of transgender people. This is the same with Australian Aboriginals. There are surely some but there have been no studies and canvassing various transpinays has all brought back the same answer, the Aeta people seem to have far less gay and trans people. There are Aboriginal transgender people but the percentage seems to be low, on a par with Caucasians.

There seems to be a higher amount of transgender people in Asian countries. From India all the way to Samoa there are countries with a high percentage. Certain countries have less like China, however this could be because of the stricter laws. In the west there are many closet cross dressers, but China may have many closeted transsexuals.

The next argument is that some races have different bone structures which means transsexuals can pass easier. In the west transgender women have a harder time passing because they are more noticeable. This is a difficult argument to accept because it is normal for TS to transition at a late stage in life in the US and Europe. Minds are opening up and it is becoming normal for younger people to transition, which may help this argument in the future. For now it is a none starter as the world of changing gender is most popular in the west for cross dressers who are usually men that enjoy dressing up part time.

Social ridicule is a reason not to be yourself. Anyone that has watched a few English TV comedy shows will of seen men dressed as women for joke. However countries like Thailand and the Philippines also have a rich comic culture mocking ‘men in wigs’. Trans women are mocked globally because people simply dos not understand it. Therefore ridicule has no baring on why certain counties have more TS than others. It is certainly easier to be yourself in certain countries, but this is more likely a case of what is common becomes normal.

The final and most disturbing possibility is money. It has been documented that families in Thailand will actively encourage and invest in a boy becoming a girl so that they become a bread winner. It is no secret that millions of men visit the country each year for sinful pleasures. It is argued that many families are so poor that they groom their sons to become ‘lady boys’ to exploit this demand. The high drug use among these ‘women of the night’ and low life-expectancy makes this argument redundant.

Conclusion
The most logical answer is DNA. Asians and to some extent Latinos have higher percentages of trans people and this is probably something related to particular strands of DNA. All of the other arguments seem to be without fact. There have been certain migrations of strands of DNA throughout the ages. It is most likely that the ones with a higher percentage of people with the third sex gene have naturally led to more tolerance and acceptance.

The STRAP organization was started in 2002. It is a support group for transgender men and women from the Philippines. The group has grown quickly in the past year or so thanks to a higher public presence and possibly because one of the most respected members, Rica Paras, was one of the stars of Pinoy Big Brother. Rica made a big impression inside the house and helped to bring more awareness and understanding to the trans cause in the Philippines.

The organization was the brainchild four transpinays. These trans women had become respected members of society and decided that all Philippines transsexuals could and should attain the same status. They created STRAP to provide a support network and make the third sex a normal part of society rather than a people frowned upon.

In 2009 Naomi Fontanos took over the role of Chairwoman. She runs her own blog which is possibly the best resource for those looking to read about transgender issues in the Philippines. Members such as Naomi and Sass have traveled all over the world to appear and speak in LGBT conferences and events. They have furthered the cause of making transsexualism more acceptable and understandable.

There is a strong media tradition which mocks the third sex in the Philippines. This contributes to a low self confidence for many transwomen in the country. Many are seemingly content with a life in a medial jobs, and as a ‘mistress’ to married men. STRAP’s goal is to empower transgender people. The group wants to educate the public and the government that TS have a value to society and are not a third sex or cross dressers.

The lack of self confidence within the trans community in the Philippines prevents many from taking action and joining STRAP. The organization does not have any prejudices or limits. It is an open group which welcomes everyone. There are no requirements to joining STRAP other than having an interest in transsexual issues. Transpinay World fully endorses this group and would like to encourage all transpinays to join.

The proposed bill was received on 15 July 2010. It is set to put an end to discrimination aimed at the LGBT community in the Philippines. This positive step will help to put an end to transphobia by making it illegal for organizations to refuse service or entrance to people that wear clothing not usually associated with their birth gender:

“LGBT students are denied admission or expelled from schools due to their sexual orientation or
gender identity. Companies block the promotion and stymie the career advancement of gay or
lesbian employees due to the deeply embedded notion that homosexuality denotes weakness. Laws
such as the current anti-vagrancy law are also abused by the law enforcement agencies to harass gay
men.”

“It is therefore imperative to define and penalize practices that discriminate against LGBTs. It should
be noted that the list herein is not exhaustive as it focuses only on the most blatant instances of
discrimination. Instances of discrimination of similar nature should be deemed included among the
prohibited practices by reasonable analogy.”

Below is an interview with a transsexual called Aiyah from the Philippines. She lived and worked in Japan for almost 3 years and shares some of her experiences with us…

Transpinayworld - Why did you go to Japan?

Aiyah - To get a better chance in life because I’d been told by a lot of TS friends that they were happily living and working in japan.

TPW- What are the work options for transpinays in japan?

A – There are a lot of work options in Japan. I’ve met some working in a clothing company, working in an obento shop (fast food) which is good pay. I met a TS English teacher as well and most are working in a karaoke club which you get higher salary than a local working in an office. Some do modeling and some work as an escort.

TPW- Is japan a tolerant society towards ts?
A – Yes Japan is very open minded, people are very friendly towards TS. Japan is where you can feel that your free, you will be treated like a real woman, walk, talk, dress in any way your comfortable. People don’t care if you are transgender, they are not talking about the way you look. They respect TS the same as anyone else, especially if Japanese man are into TS. They treat you as a princess, take you shopping, give you lots of gifts as long they have your loyalty.

TPW – What do u like and dislike about japan?
A - My first experience at work the Filipina TS attitude where they will put you in an awkward situation if u don’t obey or follow their game. They can ruin your relationship with the manager or to any customer who is interested in you, or worse is losing your job if you don’t get along and don’t know and carefully play their game.

But what I like the most in Japan is the weather, especially winter time. I love to wear boots and lovely coat and cute outfits but sometimes the weather is unpleasant when it rains after snow falls. It can freeze you to death and makes you feel sad and blue. I hate the spring time, cherry blossom is bad for those of us that have pollen allergy.

TPW – Do you miss Japan?
A – Yes the weather is lovely makes you more pretty and fashionable in the winter time. I miss riding different kinds of trains, and especially the food. I love their home made obentos and yakiniku (grilled meat) and their ramen cup noodles hehehe…

TPW - Do u have any advice for transsexuals thinking of going to work in Japan?
A – One thing is you must fully learn and understand Nihongo (Japanese language) to avoid miss-understandings. And to know what your dealing with especially when getting a job, and to avoid getting lost when riding a train. Feel free to ask and never get shy as Japanese nationals are very friendly and helpful!

Choose a right friend that u can trust not to bring you in a bad situation! And at any situation never hesitate to visit our Philippine embassy or any Japanese consulate. They are very helpful with any problems.

And most important thing is never get involved in drugs. It will lead to nothing but a miserable situation, if a friend whose dealing with it avoid them and cut the friendship or it will lead you to a bad situation, based on my personal experienced!

TPW – Is there anything else you would like to share about your time in Japan?

A – Well japan is a very nice peaceful country. I can say it is a good place for TS and there are lots of good opportunity if you just take it slowly, patiently and in a nice clean way!

So that’s it I don’t think I can say more, all is mentioned above this is my personal experience when I was in japan. I hope this can be of help for those TS out there who want to go Japan to find a better life. Just always have trust and faith in yourself and that will lead you in the right direction.

Love and Peace

Aiyah

(f you have anything else you would like to ask Aiyah leave a comment below.)
